Admissions at CUSAT by online
Jan 11, 2010 : Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), has invited applications for admission to the various academic programmes for the year 2010-11. Admissions will be based on Common Admission Test (CAT)/Departmental Admission Test (DAT)/Test for Lateral Entry (LET) depending of the course.
Admissions through CAT: Admission to the following programmes will be through CAT, except where specifically indicated otherwise.
FIRST DEGREE PROGRAMMES:
(a) B.Tech in Civil, Computer Science & Engg, Electrical & Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Information Technology, Mechanical and Safety & Fire Engg (all Self-financing) (b) B.Tech in Polymer Science & Engineering and (c) Five Year Integrated M.Sc. in Photonics. Applicant should have passed Plus Two Examination of Kerala with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optionals or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto securing a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry together. (d) B.Tech in Instrumentation Technology: Pass in Plus Two examination of Kerala with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optionals or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto securing a minimum of 60% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry together with at least 55% in Mathematics. (e) B.Tech in Marine Engg (Residential Programme): Pass in Plus Two or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English with 60% marks in PCM and 50% for Mathematics and 50% marks in English in 10th or 12th. (Applicable to SC/ST category also) Upper age limit is 25 years as on 1st September, 2010. Vocational/Diploma students are not eligible to apply. Eligibility for admission will be based on directions from the DG Shipping (Govt. of India). (f) B.Tech. in Naval Architecture & Ship Building: Pass in Plus Two examination of Kerala or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto with First Class securing a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics as well as for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry together. (g) 5 Year B.B.A LL.B. (Hons) (Cost sharing course): Pass in Plus Two examination with 60% marks in Science/Commerce group or 55% marks in Arts/Humanities. Should not have completed 20 years of age (22 years in the case of SC/ST and OBC candidates), on 1st July, 2010. SC/ST candidates are eligible for admission, if they have pass marks in qualifying examination except for Marine Engineering
Post Graduate Programmes:
LL.M: Bachelor’s Degree in Law with at least 45% marks. M.A Hindi Language and Literature: B.A./B.Sc with Hindi as a subject of study with at least 45% marks in Hindi. M.B.A (Full-time / Part-time*): Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. * (conditions apply) M.B.A (Travel and Tourism): Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate M.B.A (International Business): Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. M.A Applied Economics: Bachelor’s Degree in Economics with 55% in Part III (Economics and Subsidiaries) or 60% in B.Com.,BBA, BBM with Economics as one of the subject or B.Sc. Mathematics or Statistics with 65% marks. M.C.A (Regular and Cost Sharing), offered by CUSAT and its recognized Institutions: Any Graduate with Mathematics as one of the Main or Subsidiary subjects or Graduate in Electronics/Computer Science/Computer Applications/Engg/Technology with aggregate 55% marks in all subjects other than Languages and Humanities. M.Sc. Applied Chemistry: B.Sc. with Chemistry/Polymer Chemistry/Environmental Chemistry/Industrial Chemistry/Petrochemicals as Main, with Mathematics as one of the subsidiary subjects with at least 55% marks in the Main subject. M.Sc. Biotechnology: Bachelor’s Degree in any branch of Life Sciences including Agricultural and Medical Science or Chemical Science or Chemical Engg with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate. M.Sc. Electronic Science (With specialisation in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics Microwave Electronics and Computer Technology): First class B.Sc with not less than 60% aggregate marks in Electronics or Physics. M.Sc. Environmental Technology: Stream I - Env. Engg: Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry with Physics and Mathematics as subsidiaries or Engg (Civil/Public Health/ Environmental or Chemical) with 55% Marks. Stream II - Env. Biotech: Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences/ Environmental Sciences/ Zoology/ Botany/Microbiology with 55% marks. M.Sc. Hydrochemistry: B.Sc Degree in Chemistry with Physics and Mathematics as subsidiaries or B.Sc. Degree of any University in Kerala with Polymer Chemistry/Industrial Chemistry /Petrochemicals/ Environment & Water Management as the Main subject and Mathematics and Physics/Computer Science as subsidiaries with 55% marks in the respective Main subject. M. Sc. Industrial Fisheries: Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology/Botany/Fisheries with at least 55% marks in the optional subjects. Bachelor’s Fegree in Fisheries includes Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Fisheries, Aquaculture/Fishery Science/Industrial Fish and Fisheries/BFSC in Nautical science. M. Sc. Marine Biology: B.Sc in any branch of Life Sciences such as Aquaculture, Bio-chemistry, Biotechnology, Botany, Microbiology and Zoology as a Main subject or B.Sc in Fishery Science with at least 55% marks in the optional subjects. M. Sc. Marine Geology: B.Sc in Geology/Maths/Physics/Chemistry with 55% aggregate marks in optionals. M. Sc. Marine Geophysics: B.Sc with at least 55% aggregate marks in (a) Geology (Main) with Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry as subsidiaries (b) Physics (Main) with Mathematics and Geology or Chemistry or Electronics as subsidiaries (c) Mathematics (Main) with Physics and Geology or Chemistry as subsidiaries. M. Sc. Mathematics: B.Sc with Mathematics Main, with at least 55% marks for optional subjects taken together. M. Sc. Meteorology: B.Sc with Physics/Mathematics as the main subject with 55% marks. Those with Mathematics as the main subject should have studied Physics as one of the subsidiary subjects and vice-versa. M. Sc. Oceanography: B.Sc with Physics/Mathematics as the main subject with 55% marks. Those with Mathematics as the main subject should have studied Physics as one of the subsidiary subjects and vice-versa. M. Sc. Physics: B.Sc with Physics main and Mathematics as subsidiary with at least 55% marks in Physics. M. Sc. Statistics: B.Sc in Mathematics or Statistics with at least 55% marks for optional subjects taken together.
SC/ST candidates are eligible for admission, if they have pass marks in qualifying examination
M.Tech Programmes:
Admissions to the M.Tech programmes noted below are based on valid GATE score as prescribed under the academic regulations specific to each programme. Candidates not possessing GATE may also apply, but will be considered only if GATE qualified candidates are not available. In such cases, admissions will be based on the DAT.
M.Tech. Atmospheric Science: (i) M.Sc or its equivalent in Meteorology, Oceanography, Mathematics, Physics, and Space Physics with a First Class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution (ii) A valid GATE score or a pass in the Joint UGC CSIR Test (NET) for JRF.
M.Tech. Computer Aided Structural Analysis & Design: (i) B.Tech or Equivalent Degree in Naval Architecture and Ship building/Civil Engg./Mechanical Engg with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution (ii) A valid GATE score.
M.Tech. Computer & Information Science: (i) B.Tech or equivalent Degree in any discipline/AMIETE/AMIE or M.Sc. in Physics with Electronics as special subject, or M.Sc. in Mathematics with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution (ii) A valid GATE score.
M.Tech. Electronics (With specialization in Digital Electronics, Microwave & Radar Electronics): (i) B.Tech or equivalent Degree/AMIE/AMIETE in Electronics and Communication Engg./Electrical Engg./Electronics and Instrumentation or M.Sc in Electronics/Physics (with Electronics as specialization) with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution (ii) A valid GATE score in Electronics/Electronics and Communication Engineering (iii) If sufficient number of candidates are not available in Category (ii) those with GATE score in Instrumentation, Electrical & Electronics Engg., Electrical Engg, or Physics will be considered.
M.Tech. Engineering Statistics: (i) B. Tech or equivalent Degree or AMIE in any discipline with first class (60%) from any recognized University or Institution with valid GATE score.
M.Tech. Industrial Catalysis: (i) M.Sc in Chemistry/Applied Chemistry or any other Degree recognized as equivalent with at least a first class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution with valid GATE Score.
M.Tech. Marine Biotechnology: Minimum 60% Marks or equivalent CGPA in any one of the following from any recognized Indian or Foreign University. (i) B. Tech/ BE in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, Leather Biotechnology, Chemistry/Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, B.Pharma, Chemical Technology (ii) M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Marine Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Botany/ Zoology/ Biochemistry, Microbiology/Genetics, Biophysics, Microbial Genetics and Bioinformatics, Marine Biology/Aquatic Biology and Fisheries/Environmental Biotechnology/Mariculture. Selection of candidates is done by JNU on behalf of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.
M.Tech. Ocean Technology: (i) M.Sc in Oceanography/Physics/Marine Geology/ Meteorology/ Marine Geophysics/Environmental Sciences or M.Sc (Tech) in Marine Geophysics or B.Tech. or equivalent Degree /AMIE in Civil Engg./ Environmental Sciences with 60% marks from any recognized University or Institution (ii) A valid GATE score in any of the subjects mentioned above as the second paper.
M.Tech. Opto-Electronics & Laser Technology: (i) Masters Degree in Physics/ Electronics/ Photonics/B.Tech or B.E. Degree in Electronics and Communication Engg./Electronics Engg./ Electrical Engg./Electrical and Electronics Engg with a First Class (60%) from any recognized University or Institution (ii) A valid GATE score in the concerned branch of study.
M.Tech. Polymer Technology: (i) B.Tech. or equivalent Degree/AMIE in Polymer Science and Rubber Technology/Chemical Engg /Technology or M.Sc. Polymer Chemistry/M.Sc. Chemistry with Polymer Chemistry as specialization with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution (ii) a valid GATE score.
M.Tech. Software Engg: (i) B.Tech or equivalent Degree or AMIE/AMIETE in Computer Science/ Information Technology or M.Sc. in Computer Software/Operations Research & Computer Applications or MCA with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution (ii) A valid GATE score.
SC/ST candidates are eligible for admission to the courses mentioned under 2 above if (i) they have pass mark in the qualifying examination (ii) a valid gate score (iii) in the absence of GATE qualified candidates candidate not possessing GATE will be considered.
ADMISSIONS THROUGH DAT:
POST GRADUATE PROGRAMME:
M.A. Translation (German/Russian): Bachelor’s Degree of any recognized University and Diploma level knowledge in the language concerned.
DIPLOMA /CERTIFICATE PROGRAMMES (PART-TIME):
(i) Certificate courses in French/German/Japanese/Russian: Pass in plus two or equivalent or ITI certificate. Previous knowledge of the language is not essential. (ii) Integrated Diploma in French/ German/ Italian/Japanese/ Russian: Pass in Plus-two or equivalent. Previous knowledge in the language concerned is not essential. (iii) Diploma in French/German/Japanese/ Russian: Pass in Plus-two or equivalent and certificate level knowledge in the language concerned. (iv) P.G. Diploma in Communicative English: Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto with English as one of the subjects of study from a University. (v) P.G. Diploma in Translation and Functional Hindi: Bachelor’s degree with Hindi as one of the subjects
M.Phil. PROGRAMMES (FULL-TIME)
M.Phil. Chemistry, Commerce, Hindi, Physics and Mathematics: Master’s Degree in the concerned subject with at least 50% marks. M.Phil. Applied Economics: Master’s Degree in Economics with at least 50% aggregate marks. M.Phil. Marine Chemistry: Master’s Degree in Chemistry or Hydrochemistry with 50% marks. M.Phil. Fisheries Science: MSc. Degree Industrial Fisheries / Marine Biology/Zoology/Aquatic Biology & Fisheries/Fishery Biology & Aquaculture/Capture and Culture Fisheries/Aquaculutre/M.F.Sc. with 50% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade in PG.
M.Phil. Life Sciences: Master’s Degree in Marine Biology/Zoology/ any branch of Life sciences such as Aquatic Biology and Fisheries, Bio Chemistry, Biotechnology, Botany, Fishery science with 60% marks.
Ph.D PROGRAMMES: Ph.D programmes are offered in all the teaching Departments/Schools and recognized Institutions of the University. The areas of research and the availability of vacancies may be ascertained from the Departments/Schools or Recognized Institutions. Those intending to do research in the Recognized Institutions of the University are to obtain application forms from the University Departments/Schools dealing with the discipline of their choice.
ADMISSION THROUGH LET:
Lateral Entry to B.Tech in Civil, Computer Science & Engg, Electrical & Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Information Technology, Instrumentation Technology, Mechanical, Polymer Science & Engineering and Safety & Fire Engg: Diploma recognized by the Board of Technical Education of the States after undergoing a regular course of 3 years duration with not less than 60% marks. The maximum age prescribed is 25 years as on 1st July 2010.
B.Tech programmes and the corresponding feeder courses for Lateral Entry are given at www.cusat.nic.in.
Mode of Applying: Those intending to apply for the academic programmes listed under First Degree Programmes, Post Graduate Programmes, M.Tech Programmes for which admissions are through CAT and Lateral Entry to B.Tech for which admissions are through LET, have to submit their applications Online at www.cusat.nic.in
Those applying for programmes for which admissions are through DAT, have to get the application forms from the concerned Departments/Schools. Those who have appeared/are appearing in full for their final qualifying examinations are also eligible to apply.
Fees: Application fee is Rs. 850/- for General Category Candidates and Rs. 375/- for SC/ST Category applicants. Application fee is Rs. 5850/- for those applying under NRI Quota. For Diploma & Certificate Programmes, the fee is Rs.100/- for General category and Rs.50/- for SC/ST category.
Those applying Online, have to download Chalan and make the payment through SBI or SBT. Others have to pay the fee by way Demand Draft drawn in favour of Registrar, CUSAT payable at Ernakulam. Applicant should write his/her name and Application No. on upper left hand corner of the reverse side of the DD.
Online Registration: Online registration is to be done at www.cusat.nic as per the instructions given there. Online Registration can be done till 12.02.2010. If the applicant is satisfied with the entries after verifying the preview, the ‘Confirm’ button has to be pressed for completing the registration process. Two print outs of the confirmation page has to be taken. One copy of the confirmation page (filled up with recent colour photograph and signature) along with the University copy of Chalan Receipt for the fee paid, should reach ‘The Director, IRAA Unit,CUSAT, Kochi-22, Kerala, India’ latest by 19.02.2010
No separate admit card will be sent. It may be downloaded from www.cusat.nic.in between 20.04.2010 and 08.5.2010, by submitting the Registration number and date of birth of applicant. DAT applications will also be on sale till 12.02.2010. The last date for submission of DAT application along with DD and other documents to the concerned Department is 19.02.2010.
Exam Dates: CAT for admission to all PG Programmes (except M.A.Hindi and MA Applied Economics) will be held on 8th May 2010 (Saturday).
CAT for all B.Tech Programmes, M Sc Photonics, M A Hindi, BB.A LLB (Hons) and MA Applied Economics will be on 9th May 2010 (Sunday).
LET for B Tech Lateral Entry will be held on 16th May 2010 (Sunday).
Test date for the DATs will be announced by the concerned department.
Examination Centres: CAT for those applying for First Degree Programmes in Engineering & Technology (B.Tech and 5 year Integrated M.Sc. in Photonics) will be conducted at New Delhi, Kolkatta, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Jamshedpur, Allahabad, Lucknow, Ranchi, Varanasi, Kota and all District Head Quarters of Kerala.
CAT for those applying for PG Programmes/ both First Degree Programmes including BB.A, LL.B (Hons)/and PG Programmes will be conducted only in the Centres at all the district head quarters of Kerala.
Lateral Entry Test will be conducted only at Kochi Centre.
DATs are conducted at Kochi by the individual Departments./Schools/Centre of the University on dates to be announced later.

Allocation of seats: Of the total seats for B.Tech (Self-Financing) programmes 50% are free seats, 40% are payment seats and 10% are NRI payment seats. The free seats are earmarked for Keralite students. For B.Tech. in Naval Architecture & Ship Building, Instrumentation and Polymer Science & Engineering 10% of the seats are reserved for students on all India basis (All India Quota) and the remaining seats for Keralites.
For all regular Post-Graduate Programmes including subsidized Post-Graduate programmes like M.C.A., M.B.A. (International Business), M.B.A. (Travel & Tourism) and 5 year Integrated M.Sc. in Photonics programme 10% of the seats are set apart for students on all India basis (All India Quota) and the remaining for Keralites.
For Post-Graduate programmes under Self-Financing sector 50% of the seats are given for Keralites, 10% for NRI’s and the remaining 40% open to all.
