Bachelor of Fisheries Science at CIFNET

Feb 21, 2010 : Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical & Engineering Training, Fine Arts Avenue, Kochi-16 has invited applications for admission to the Bachelor of Fisheries Science (Nautical Science) Programme for 2010.

The 4 year, 8-semester course with integrated Practical & on board training on ocean going fishing vessels, is affiliated to the Cochin University of Science & Technology and is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping. There are 20 seats under General Quota and 1 each under NRI and Foreign Nationla quota

Eligibility is 10+2 with minimum 50% marks in English, 50% marks in Mathematics and aggregate of 50% marks in other Science subjects. SC/ST applicants, need only a pass in the qualifying examination with these subjects as specified here. Applicant should be of  minimum 17 years of age and maximum of 20 years of age as on 1.10.2010.Selection will be based on the performance in the Entrance Test, Academic merit i9n 10+2 and interview.

Applicant should be medically fit and should have eye sight an colour vision as per Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000, as amended from time to time. Application forms will be issued till 22nd May, 2010.

Application from and Prospectus can be obtained by Post, from the Director, CIFNET, Fine Arts Avenue, Kochi-682 016, by sending a request for the same along with a self-addressed, A4 Size envelope with stamps worth Rs.15/- affixed and a Demand Draft for Rs.400/- (Rs.200/- for SC/ST), drawn in favour of ‘Senior Administrative Officer, CIFNET’, payable at Ernakulam.

It can be obtained in person from Institute’s Head Quarters at Kochi and from the CIFNET Units at Chennai (59, SN Chetty Street, Royapuram, Chennai-600013) and Vishakapatnam (Beach Road, Vishakapatnam-530001). Application can also be downloaded from the website www.cifnet.gov.in and submitted with the prescribed fee.

The last date for receipt of the filled in Applications at the Institute is 22nd May, 2010. Entrance Test will be held on 6th June 2010 at CIFNET Kochi. Interview will be on 19th July, 2010. The course commences on 22nd July, 2010. On completion of the Degree with 50% aggregate, candidates becomes eligible for entry as Nautical Deck Cadets without Pre Sea Training and will be eligible to appear for Second Mate Foreign Going after completing sea time requirement as per STCW Code.
