Kerala SET 2010 on June 6
March 12 , 2010 : The State Eligibility Test (SET) 2010, a mandatory requirement for appointment as Higher Secondary School Teachers and Non-Vocational Teachers in the State as per the Special Rules in force, will be held at centres across all District Head Quarters in Kerala on 6th June, 2010.
SET 2010 consist of two papers, each of 120 minutes (2 hours). Paper I, common for all candidates will have two parts, namely General Knowledge (Part A) and Aptitude in Teaching (Part B). Paper II will be a test based on the subject of specialization of the candidate at the Post Graduate (PG) Level.
There are 37 subjects that can be chosen for Part II. They are Anthropology, Arabic, Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Computer Science/Information Technology, Economics, Electronics, English, French, Gandhian Studies, Geography, Geology, German, Hindi, History, Home Science, Islamic History, Journalism, Kannada, Latin, Malayalam, Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Russian, Sanskrit, Social Work, Sociology, Statistics, Syriac, Tamil, Urdu and Zoology.
There will be 120 questions for Paper I with 60 questions each for Part A and Part B. Each question will carry 1 mark.
For Paper II, there will be 120 questions carrying one mark each for the subjects under Paper II except for Mathematics and Statistics for which there will be only 80 questions carrying 1.5 marks each. Questions of both the papers will be objective in nature and based on single response. Each question would be followed by four suggested responses (A, B, C, D) of which only one will be the most appropriate.
Candidates will have to select and mark the response in the appropriate space provided in the OMR Answer Sheet. For each correct response the candidates will be awarded 1 mark in both the Papers except for Mathematics and Statistics for which each correct response will be awarded 1.5 marks. Marking more than one response against a question shall be deemed as incorrect answer. For every incorrect answer ¼ - th of the mark assigned to the correct answer to that question shall be deducted from the total marks secured by the candidate for the Paper concerned.
To pass the State Eligibility Test, a candidate should score at least 35 % marks for Paper I and Paper II separately and also at least 50 % of the aggregate marks of Paper I and Paper II, which is calculated as follows .
In computing marks, fraction shall be rounded off to the first two decimal places in the calculation of aggregate percentage of marks only. No rounding off of marks shall be made for calculating the pass percentage for Paper I and Paper II separately.

Eligibility: Applicant should have Masters Degree in the concerned subject in II Class with not less than 50% marks and B.Ed. Degree in any discipline from any one of the Universities in Kerala or from any other University recognized as equivalent thereto, with certain exceptions as mentioned below.
For Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, those having Second Class MSc.Ed Degree in the concerned subject with not less than 50% marks from one of the Regional Institutes of Education sponsored by NCERT will be eligible to apply. For Botany and Zoology, those having Second Class MSc.Ed Degree in Life Science (with not less than 50% marks) from one of the Regional Institutes of Education are also eligible.
For Anthropology, Commerce, Computer Science/Information Technology, Electronics, French, Gandhian Studies, Geology, German, Home Science, Journalism, Latin, Music, Russian, Social Work, Sociology, Statistics, Syriac, Philosophy and Psychology, candidates need not have B.Ed. Degree for appearing for SET.
For Latin, candidates who have passed their Degree examination in any discipline from any one of the Universities in Kerala or from any other University recognized as equivalent thereto with Latin as their Second Language under Part II with not less than 50% marks for that Part II are also eligible to appear for SET, provided such candidates have acquired II Class Masters Degree with not less than 50 % marks in any discipline.
Those who have acquired II class Masters Degree in Communicative English with not less than 50% marks and BEd are eligible to appear for SET in English.
Those who have acquired Diploma in Hindi Teaching, but do not have B.Ed. Degree, are eligible to apply for SET in accordance with the exemption clause provided in the Special Rules.
Those who have acquired B.Ed Degree in Hindi conducted by the Dakshin Bharatha Hindi Prachar Sabha are exempted from the requirement of producing the equivalency certificate, as the Degree has been recognized by the Universities in Kerala.
Those who have acquired their qualification through Correspondence Course/Open Universities which are not recognized by any one of the Universities in Kerala are not eligible to appear for the SET. Those who have acquired their qualifications through recognized correspondence courses/Open universities should obtain and furnish certificates of recognition and equivalency from any one of the Universities in Kerala.
Those admitted for B.Ed Course in 2009, will be permitted to appear for SET. Those appearing for Post Graduate Final year/Final semester Examinations in the Academic year 2009-10 will also be permitted to appear for SET 2010 if they already have a B.Ed Degree. SET certificates of such candidates will be issued only if they qualify the PG/B.Ed examinations in that chance itself. B.Ed candidates should produce the pass certificates and PG candidates shall produce both the pass certificates and mark lists for proving their eligibility after qualifying SET-2010. Candidates appearing simultaneously for PG and B.Ed. final examinations are not eligible to appear for SET-2010 under this provision.
Applicants belonging to SC/ST categories shall be granted a relaxation of 5% marks in the minimum marks prescribed for the eligibility to appear for the SET. However the minimum requirement of a pass in second class for the qualifying examination shall not be applicable.
No age limit is prescribed for candidates appearing for the SET. Mode of Registration for SET-2010: Those intending to register for the SET should first obtain the prescribed Application form and Prospectus from one of the following Head Post Offices in Kerala between March 15 and April 17, 2010, by paying Rs.500/- (Rs.250/- for SC/ST applicants on production of a copy of the Community Certificate).

Those residing outside Kerala can get the Application form and Prospectus by Post from ‘The Director, LBS Centre for Science & Technology, Thiruvananthapuram-695033’, by sending a request for the same with a Demand Draft of Rs.550/- (General category ) and Rs.300/- (SC/ST category), drawn in favour of the Director, LBS Centre for Science & Technology on any Nationalised Bank in India and payable at Thiruvananthapuram and a self addressed envelope of size 31 cm X 25 cm, to reach the office of the Director, LBS Centre for Science & Technology, Thiruvananthapuram-695033, latest by 7th April, 2010.
Each application form will have an application number printed on it and a Security Key embedded at the bottom of the detachable portion of the Application form. Applicant can scratch this portion to get the Security Key. Applicants should ensure the confidentiality of their Security Key and the Application number.
There are two steps for submitting the application, both of which are mandatory.
Step 1: ‘ONLINE REGISTRATION’, can be done from 15.3.2010 to 17.4.2010, by logging on to the site www.lbscentre.org or www.lbskerala.com, clicking SET-2010 and clicking ‘Download Application Form. The applicant will be prompted to type the Application number and the Security Key, printed on the application form. On giving this, the format of the online application form will be obtained. Subsequently, the applicant should Fill in the Application form carefully and then click ‘SUBMIT’. On successful completion of the online registration, a ‘REGISTRATION ID’ will be generated by the computer. An acknowledgement slip with the Registration ID will be displayed and the candidates are directed to take a print out of the same and retain it for future reference.
STEP 2: SENDING THE APPLICATIONS: After completion of step 1, the Application form obtained along with the Prospectus should be filled and a recent passport size photograph affixed in the appropriate space (The photograph affixed on the application should be sharp and clear as it is used for printing on the SET-2010 certificate).
The completed application should be sent to ‘The Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Extra Police Road, Nandavanam, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram’ by Registered Post or can be handed over in person at the LBS Headquarters at Thiruvananthapuram, in the envelope super scribed ‘Application for SET-2010’, supplied along with the Application Form, with the optional subject selected under Paper II written in the space provided on the envelope, so as to reach there latest by 17th April, 2010. SC/ST applicants should enclose community certificate with the application.
Online Admit Card for the Test: The admit card for the SET shall be prepared for all the eligible candidates and will be available at www.lbscentre.org or www.lbskerala.com from the date which will be announced later in leading dailies and in the websites. Applicants should visit the websites and keep a constant watch on the leading print and electronic media, pertaining to notifications/instructions regarding SET.
Admit Card can be obtained by logging on to www.lbscentre.org or www.lbskerala.com; clicking the link SET-2010; clicking `Print Your Admit Card’; Entering the Application Number and Security Key when prompted; Taking a printout of the Admit card displayed on the screen.
Instructions related to the Test are given in detail in the Prospectus. The answer keys will be published in the official website of the LBS Centre immediately after the examination. Complaints, if any, from the candidates regarding the answer keys should reach the Director, LBS Centre, in writing, within five working days from the date of publication of the keys with supporting documents.
Complaints, received from candidates will be placed before a panel of experts constituted by the Director, LBS Centre and the decision of the experts shall be final.
