PhD Scholarship at CUSAT

Kochi, May 25, 2012: Inter University Centre for IPR Studies, Cochin University of Science & Technology, Cochin has invited applications for scholarships for PhD in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). 

Areas of research :
The research area must be related to IPR issues. Some of the areas identified are :
(a) Access to medicine and patent law;
(b) Limitations and exceptions on intellectual property laws;
(c) Protection of geographical indications;
(d) Protection of Genetic Resources;
(e) Protection of Traditional and Indigenous/Tribal knowledge; Protection of Ayurvedic practices in Kerala;
(f) TRIPS obligations - Federal questions in India;
(g) Farmers’ Protection;
(h) Patenting of biotechnology;
(i) Protection of Plant Varieties;
(j) Information technology and law; and
(k) Access to information / knowledge and IPR

Qualification :

Eligibility : Applicants eligible for PhD registration in CUSAT or a student already registered for PhD in CUSAT in IPR related areas and not enjoyed or enjoying any fellowship areeligible to apply. The post-graduate degree could be in Law, Economic, Political Science, History, Science and Technology etc. Full time researchers alone are eligible for award of scholarship. OR
Masters Degree from any University with atleast 55% marks or CGPA of 6 in the 10 point scale in any discipline. Selected students are eligible for PhD registration in CUSAT.

Scholarship details :
Rs.12,000 per month and Rs.20,000 per year as contingency grant.

Application must be in the prescribed form with detailed research proposal. The research proposal shall be in any one of the areas identified above. The proposal shall contain the following : (1) Title of the work (2) Introduction describing the background of the problems, reasons for identifying the areas and its relation to IPR issues, review of literature (3) Justification for the study (4) Research area (5) Research questions (6) Hypothesis (7) Research methodology (8) Tentative chapter break up (9) Work schedule indicating details of the time required to complete the work and (10) List of relevant materials including books, articles, laws, reports etc.

Registration for PhD : Students selected for scholarship who are not registered for PhD in CUSAT shall register for full time PhD programme under the PhD Regulations of CUSAT.

Payment of fee : Rs. 950/- as Demand Draft in favour of Registrar, CUSAT, payable at Ernakulam.
