PhD at Banarus Hindu Uty: Apply by June 25

Kochi, June 8, 2012: Banarus Hindu University, Varanasi has invited application on prescribed format (ONLINE Submission ONLY) for admission to PhD Programme of the academic session 2012-13 in the disciplines under the Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Engineering and Technology.

Minimum eligibility reqirements :

A candidate should have passed the qualifying examination securing the minimum percentage of marks and a minimum of 50 marks in Academic Record as per details given below:

Faculty of Engineering & Technology :

(a) Qualifying Examinations :
(i) Bachelors / Masters degree in the concerned branch of engineering OR
(ii) Bachelors / Masters degree in Pharmacy for admission to the PhD programme in the Department of Pharmaceutics OR
(iii) MA / MSc in the concerned subject for admission to PhD programme in the Departments of Applied Chemistry, Applied Mathematics and Applied Physics. OR

(b) Qualifying Marks :
(i) At least 60% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying examination, with Masters degree in Engineering / Technology / Pharmacy or equivalent as qualifying examination. OR
(ii) At least 70% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying examination, with Bachelors degree in Engineering / Technology / Pharmacy or equivalent as qualifying examination OR
(iii) At least 60% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying examination, with Bachelors degree in Engineering / Technology / Pharmacy or equivalent as qualifying examination and having a minimum of 2 years of experience in research / industry / teaching in the relevant area. OR
(iv) A minimum of 5 years of experience in research / R & D organization in a technical capacity and sponsorship by the organization with Bachelors degree in Engineering / Technology / Pharmacy or equivalent as qualifying examination. OR
(v) At least 60% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying examination, with Masters degree in Science / Business Management / Agriculture as qualifying examination. OR
(vi) At least 60% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying examination, with MD / MS as qualifying examination.

Faculty of Agriculture :

(a) Qualifying Examination :                                                                                     (i) Masters degree in Science / Agriculture (MSc / MSc (Ag.) in the concerned subject. OR
(ii) Masters degree in Science / Agriculture (MSc / MSc (Ag.) in any one of the allied subjects pertaining to the department.
(iii) MTech in Agricultural Engineering / ME (Agricultural Engineering) or equivalent degree with specialization in Soil and Water Conservation Engineering / Irrigation and Drainage Engineering / Soil and Water Engineering / Water Resources Engineering or MSc (Ag.) in Soil and Water Conservation for admission in PhD. in Agricultural Engineering (Soil and Water Conservation Engineering).
(iv) MSc (Ag.) / MSc in Agricultural Statistics / MSc in Statistics for Admission to PhD in Agricultural Statistics under 10+2+4+2 system of education.

Candidates having 10+2+3+2 system of education will also be eligible for admission to PhD through RET only in the following Disciplines :
(1) Food Science & Technology
(2) Plant Bio-Technology
(3) Agricultural Statistics
(4) Agro-Forestry

(b) Qualifying Marks : At least 55% in aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying examination.

(a-2) Relaxation in minimum percentage of Marks / Academic record for Scheduled Castes (SC) / Scheduled Tribes (ST) / Physically Challenged (PC) / Other Backward Classes (OBC / OBC-MINORITY) candidates :

There shall be a relaxation of 5% marks (or equivalent grade point average) for SC/ ST and PC candidates in the minimum marks required in the qualifying examination. The minimum marks required for SC/ST and PC candidates in the Academic Record shall be 45 and for OBC / OBC-MINORITY candidates 47.50, respectively. However, a Physically Challenged (PC), SC / ST / OBC / OBC-MINORITY candidate shall not get the double benefit of being SC / ST / OBC / OBC-MINORITY as well as PC candidate in the above relaxations.

The University will hold RESEARCH ENTRANCE TEST (RET) for the disciplines under the Faculty of Agriculture only on 8 July, 2012 [9 am - 11 am]. Admission in the disciplines under the faculty of Engineering and Technology will be from RET Exempted candidates
only. Desirous applicants shall be required to fill up the Application form online and make online payment of prescribed Application Processing Fee through the payment gateway available on BHU website.

The printout of the online submitted application form (after affixing photograph, putting signature and attaching required certificates - See sections L,M,N above) can be submitted in an envelope to the "Office of the Controller of Examinations, Banaras Hindu University" on or before June 25, 2012 by hand or by post at the following address : The Controller of Examinations, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi - 221 005.
