PG / PG Diploma Courses of TANUVAS
Kochi, July 20, 2012: Application forms for admission to the following Postgraduate degree / Diploma programmes offered by Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University during 2012-13 are invited:
1. PhD PhD (Veterinary and Animal Sciences) - 20 Disciplines PhD (Fisheries Science) - 4 Disciplines
2. Master Degree MVSc - 22 Disciplines MFSc - 10 Disciplines MTech - Food Technology MSc - Biostatistics MSc - Bioinformatics MPhil - Biotechnology MPhil - Climate Change and Fisheries
3. Post-graduate Diplomas (Full Time) Bioinformatics Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosis Companion Animal Practice Wild Animal Disease Management Fish Quality Management Business Management in Animal and Fisheries Sciences (Part Time - Evening Course)
Eligibility: I. Eligibility criteria for admission to MVSc / MFSc degree courses: Candidates possessing a BVSc & AH / BFSc degree of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University or any other University recognized as equivalent thereof shall be eligible to apply Only 75% of the admission strength for the year is available for the candidates from Tamil Nadu. The remaining 25% is reserved for candidates from other states through ICAR. If there are any unfilled seats, in state quota, the same will be filled with candidates from other states who have applied and appeared for the entrance examination conducted by the University. The candidates from other states will be considered for admission by maintaining a separate rank list only against the vacancies that may arise from the state quota.
Candidates from other states cannot claim admission in the quota reserved for Tamil Nadu state candidates as a matter of right on the basis of merit.
Candidates who are seeking admission under Tamil Nadu state quota to the MVSc / MFSc degree courses excepting those who have undergone Undergraduate degree course (BVSc & AH / BFSc) in Tamil Nadu on selection from Tamil Nadu state quota should furnish a Nativity Certificate issued by the competent authority in the prescribed format in the application form.
Candidates with an OGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00 under trimester system or 7.0 out of 10.0 or 70% aggregate under semester pattern alone are eligible to apply for admission to MVSc / MFSc degree programme. Candidates who have studied under conventional system should possess a minimum of 55% marks in their Bachelor’s degree. Candidates who have passed BVSc & AH degree under the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) regulations should have obtained a minimum of 55% marks. For SC / ST candidates a minimum pass is sufficient.
II. Eligibility criteria for admission to MTech (Food Technology) degree course: Candidates possessing a BTech (FPT) degree of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University or candidates who have studied a four years degree programme in Food Processing Technology / Food Technology / Food Engineering / Dairy Technology or equivalent Engineering or Technology course from a recognised University or any other University recognized as equivalent thereof shall be eligible to apply.
Candidates with an OGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00 under trimester system or 7.0 out of 10.0 or 70% aggregate under semester pattern alone are eligible to apply for admission to MTech (FT) degree programme. Candidates who have studied under conventional system should possess a minimum of 55% marks in their Bachelor’s degree. For SC / ST candidates a minimum pass is sufficient.
III. Eligibility criteria for admission to PhD Courses: Only 75% of the admission strength for the year is available for the candidates from Tamil Nadu. The remaining 25% is reserved for candidates from other states and Union Territories. If there are any unfilled seats under Tamil Nadu state quota, the same will be filled with candidates of other states and union territories by maintaining a separate merit list. If there are any unfilled seats under other states and Union Territories quota the same will be filled with the candidates of Tamil Nadu State. All candidates should apply and appear for the entrance examination conducted by the University.
Candidates who are seeking admission under Tamil Nadu state quota to the PhD, Degree Programme except those who have undergone Undergraduate Degree course (BVSc & AH/ BFSc) in Tamil Nadu on selection from Tamil Nadu state quota should furnish a Nativity Certificate issued by the competent authority in the prescribed format in the application form.
Candidates with an OGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00 under trimester system or 7.0 out of 10.0 under semester system or 70% aggregate in the Masters degree alone are eligible to apply for admission to PhD degree programme in Veterinary and Fisheries Sciences. For SC / ST candidates, a minimum pass is sufficient.
(a) Veterinary and Animal Sciences Candidates with BVSc & AH degree and Masters degree in the concerned field of specialization from a recognised University shall alone be eligible to apply (Except Animal Biotechnology and Livestock Products Technology).
Animal Biotechnology: Candidates with MVSc degree in any field of specialization (except Animal Husbandry Economics, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension and Animal Husbandry Statistics) or MSc degree in Biotechnology with basic BVSc & AH degree recognised as equivalent thereto shall be eligible to apply.
Livestock Products Technology: Candidates with a MVSc degree in Dairy Science (or) Meat Science and Technology (or) Livestock Products Technology with a basic BVSc & AH degree recognised as equivalent thereto shall be eligible to apply.
(b) Fisheries Science Candidates with BFSc degree and Masters degree in Fisheries Science or any other degree recognised as equivalent (except Fisheries Economics) thereto shall be eligible to apply.
Fisheries Economics: Candidates with MFSc (Fisheries Economics and Management) / MFSc (Fisheries Economics) offered by TANUVAS with a basic BFSc degree (or) MFSc (Business Management) offered by CIFE, Mumbai with a basic BFSc degree (or) BFSc degree with MBA / MBM under regular stream of a recognised University shall be eligible to apply.
IV. Eligibility criteria for admission to MPhil Courses:
MPhil (Biotechnology): A candidate with Masters degree in the disciplines of Biological / Biomedical Sciences like Biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology, Medical Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology, Marine Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Molecular Biology, Gene Technology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Zoology, Environmental Sciences, Genetics, Marine Biology, Fisheries Science etc. from a recognised university with 60% aggregate marks or equivalent OGPA in the respective PG degree. For SC / ST candidates a minimum pass is sufficient.
MPhil (Climate Change and Fisheries): Any Master degree with Science background with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate for general category and a minimum of pass for SC / ST candidates.
V. Eligibility criteria for admission to MSc Courses: MSc (Bioinformatics): Any graduate with a minimum qualification of BVSc, BVSc & AH, MBBS, BDS, BFSc or BSc degree in any branch of Agriculture / Life Sciences / Genetics / Biochemistry / Biotechnology / Bioinformatics / Microbiology / Pharmacology or equivalent of Indian or Foreign University with an OGPA of 3.0/4.0 in trimester system or 7.0/10.0 in semester system or 50% in conventional system. A minimum pass is sufficient for SC / ST candidates.
MSc in Biostatistics: Graduate withBSc (Ag) / BSc (Hort) / BTech (FPT) / BTech (Dairy Tech) or any degree in life / biological sciences with an OGPA of 3.0/4.0 in trimester system or 7.0/10.0 in semester system or 50% in conventional system. A minimum pass is sufficient for SC / ST candidates.
Eligibility criteria for admission to Postgraduate Diploma Courses: (1) PG Diploma in Bioinformatics: A graduate with any one of the following qualifications: BVSc / BVSc & AH, BFSc, BSc (Agri.),BSc (Horti.), BE, BTech, MBBS, BDS, MSc, MCA or postgraduate degree with Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics / Biotechnology / Biophysics / Botany / Zoology / Biology / Biochemistry / Microbiology / Pharmacology / Computer Science / Statistics of any recognised University with an OGPA 3.0/4.0 in trimester system or 7.0/10.0 in semester system or 50% in conventional system. A minimum pass is sufficient for SC / ST candidates.
(2) Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosis (3) Postgraduate Diploma in Companion Animal Practice (4) Postgraduate Diploma in Wild Animal Disease Management
Candidates possessing a BVSc / BVSc & AH degree of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University or any other University recognized as equivalent thereto shall be eligible to apply with an OGPA of 3.0/4.0 in trimester system or 7.0/10.0 in semester system or 50% in conventional system. A minimum pass is sufficient for SC / ST candidates
(5) Post Graduate Diploma in Fish Quality Management: Candidates possessing a BFSc, BVSc, BVSc & AH, BSc (Dairy Science), BSc (Agi.), BSc (Horti.), BSc (Home Science) of four years duration, BTech (Food Technology) or Post-Graduate degree with Food Science / Microbiology / Biotechnology / Biochemistry / Zoology / Marine Biology / Costal Aquaculture / Home Science of any recognized University with OGPA 3.00 / 4.00 in trimester or OGPA 7.0 / 10.0 in semester system or 50% in conventional system. A minimum pass is sufficient for SC / ST candidates
(6) Postgraduate diploma in Business Management in Animal and Fisheries Sciences: A candidate possessing a Bachelor’s Degree in professional courses like BVSc, BVSc & AH, BFSc, BSc, (Agri), BE, BSc, (Horticulture), MBBS, BL, of recognized University (or) equivalent (or) any Bachelor’s Degree in Science (or) Arts with an OGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00 in trimester system (or) 7.0 out of 10.0 in semester system (or) 50% in conventional system shall be eligible. A minimum pass is sufficient for SC / ST candidates.

Application form should be sent with Registration fee (Rs.600/- for others and Rs.300/- for SC / ST). Registration fee should be sent only in the form of Demand Draft drawn in favour of 'Finance Officer, TANUVAS, Chennai-51' payable at Chennai.
Filled in applications along with registration fee will be received at the Office of the Chairman, Admission Committee (PG), Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Madhavaram Milk Colony, Chennai-600 051 from 18-7-2012 to 06-8-2012.
The application should be sent with the following: 1. Filled in application with passport size photograph.
2. Nativity Certificate in the prescribed format (if applicable).
3. Attested copy of the SSLC / HSC mark sheet or First page of Service Register in proof of date of birth.
4. Attested copy of the Community Certificate. Employees of TANUVAS and Government of Tamil Nadu can enclose attested copy of the first page of the Service Register in proof of community to which they belong.
5. Attested copy of the Provisional / Degree Certificate of Bachelor’s / Masters Degree.
6. Attested copies of Statement of Marks / Report cards / Transcript card showing the details of courses underwent and the marks / OGPA obtained in the degree course concerned.
7. Attested copy of the conduct certificate from the Head of the Institution last studied.
8. Duly filled hall ticket (do not stitch the hall-ticket to the application form). Use gem clip for attachment to the application form.
9. Self-addressed envelope (size 15x10 cm) stamped for Rs. 5/- (for sending acknowledgment).
10. Attested copy of the Service Certificate showing the details of service / experience (for PhD, MPhil and PG Diploma in Bioinformatics candidates only).
11. Copies of Research article, Popular article, Book, Manual, Booklet published, Proof for Medals / Awards etc., (for PhD, MSc, MPhil and PG Diploma in Bioinformatics candidates only) need to be enclosed.
