PhD (South Eastern Studies) at Calcutta Uty
Kochi, August 4, 2012: Applications have been invited for admission from candidates holding MA degree from UGC recognized universities in South & Southeast Asian Studies, History, Political Science, International Relations, Anthropology and Economics, to the PhD programme 2012 in the Department of South & Southeast Asian Studies, University of Calcutta, 1, Reformatory Street, Kolkata-27.
Those candidates who have already passed UGC / CSIR (JRF) Examinations / NET / SET / SLET /Teacher Fellowship /MPhil or equivalent examinations need not appear at the written examination and can directly apply to appear at the interview.
Foreign students may apply, and their application shall be considered subject to their degree is found to be at par with the requirements of the University of Calcutta.
Candidates should apply in the prescribed proforma by paying Rs.100/- through a challan obtainable from any Calcutta University campus (cash counter). The eligible candidates will have to appear in a written examination of one hour’s duration to be held in this Department on 6 th September 2012 at 12 noon.
The list of successful candidates of the written exam will be displayed in the Notice Board of the Department on the same day. The successful candidates will have to appear in an interview on 7th September 2012. The final list of successful candidates shall be put up on the notice Board of the Department. The allocation of supervisors will be on the basis of this interview
a) Entrance test will comprise items from:
- Historiography of South & Southeast Asia
- Recent Trends in intra-regional relations in South & Southeast Asia
- Ethnicity in South & Southeast Asia
- Gender in South & Southeast Asia
- Your Proposed Area of Research
b) No. of Seats: 15 (Including SC / ST reservation)
The completed application form must be submitted to the office of the Department of South & Southeast Asian Studies on or before 24th August 2012.
