KEAM 2012: Fourth allotment only to Engg?
From Our Entrance Exam Expert
Aug 08, 2012 : The fourth allotment to Professional Degree Courses, Kerala for 2012, to be announced on 21st August 2012, is likely to be limited to the Engineering courses. As per the Order dated 7.8.2012, issued by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Kerala, Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, has been asked to complete the allotments to Private Self Financing Engineering Colleges by 21st August, 2012. Instructions have been given to reschedule the allotment process accordingly.
As per the agreement reached between the Government and the Associations of Engineering Colleges, the allotment of students under the Government Quota was to be completed by 15th August, 2012. Commissioner for Entrance Examinations had scheduled an allotment on 14th August, 2012, to Engineering Colleges to comply with this clause in the agreement. .
But there have been requests from various corners to reschedule the allotment process so as to enable students who do not join/opt out of All India Quota allotments to seek admissions under KEAM, says the Govt order. This deadline of 15th August has been modified in these circumstances, according to the Government order.
There is lack of clarity in the Government order. It is not known as to how those opting out of AIQ allotments seek admissions under KEAM allotments. If a candidate eligible for AIQ allotments wants to stay away from that, the candidates need not file options for that. There is no compulsion on any candidate under AIQ or under KEAM to file options.
The re-scheduling of allotments was requested, it is understood, to ensure that the seats vacated under KEAM by those joining AIQ allotments, are utilized to the full extent by the state. For this, the AIQ allotments have to be completed. The delaying of allotments was sought so that the All India Quota allotments are completed before proceeding with State allotments.
However, damage has been done by conducting the thirds allotment on 5th even when the first round admissions under AIQ have not been completed. Now the only hope is that the next medical allotment would be done after September 15th by which time the allotments under AIQ would be complete.
Will hopes of Med. aspirants be shattered ?
