August 21, 2012 : If the last rank positions are any indications, there is going to be a large number of seats vacant under the Government Quota in Private Self financing Colleges after the fourth and final allotment to these colleges announced on 20th August, 2012.

In all branches in these colleges, State Merit Seats have been filled completely with the last ranks in 11 of the 18 branches there crossing the 60000 mark in State Merit. In 5 other branches, it is in the range of 50000 to 60000 and in 2 others it is 39380 and 49742. Even in the most demanded branch, Mechanical Engineering, no candidate has been allotted in the reserved categories in 27 of the 95 Colleges where this branch is offered, for want of options to them. For Information Technology, offered in 27 Colleges in Self financing category, only 4 of them have students of reserved categories in them.

For Applied Electronics & Instrumentation, 18 of the 21 Colleges have only State Merit candidates. For Automobile Engineering offered in 7 colleges, 5 have candidates only from State Merit. The situation is not different for the other branches too. For Biotechnology, all four colleges where the branch is offered have State Merit candidates only.

The last rank positions state wide, in Sate Merit for the various branches in Private self financing Engineering Colleges after the fourth allotment are as follows.

This is the last allotment to Private self financing Engineering Colleges. Those standing admitted in these colleges after the fourth allotment will not have any higher options retained.

In the Government/Aided category, demand for Mechanical Engineering seems to be very high when compared to that for the other branches. As per the last rank of fourth allotment, candidates with Rank up to 2796 got ME in this category of colleges under State Merit. For ERC, the last SM allotment is to rank 4698 while for IE, it is to Rank 4722.

In Colleges under the Agricultural and Veterinary Universities, the last ranks in SM for the Engineering courses there are as follows. DS – 10636; AG -11497; FE – 16390

In the Government Controlled Self Financing Engineering Colleges, candidates with Engineering Rank up to 33200 have got an allotment for any one of the branches in State Merit. This is for Information Technology. In the Management quota here, the last allotment for any branch has gone to rank 60660 (Electrical Engineering).
