Manbir Singh appointed Member of UPSC
    
New Delhi, Sep 3,2012: Former Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Manbir Singh today took oath of office and secrecy as a member of Union Public Service Commission. Singh, a 1976 batch IFS officer, was administered oath by UPSC Chairman Prof D P Agrawal.
    
A former Secretary (Economic Relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Singh has held several important positions which includes Counsellor (Commerce & Economics) in former USSR and later the Russian Republic, Minister at the Embassy of India in the United Arab Emirates, Chief of Protocol in New Delhi, Ambassador of India in Hungary, Iran and the Netherlands. At present there are nine members in the Commission which conducts prestigious Civil Services Examinations among others.
