'Cambridge alumni played role in India's freedom'

New Delhi, Sep 11, 2012 : Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar has said that many Cambridge alumni played a leading role in India's struggle for independence and later in guiding the destiny of the young nation.

"Many University of Cambridge alumni have played a leading role in India's struggle for independence and later in guiding the destiny of the young nation with ancient roots," Meira Kumar said while inaugurating a day-long India-Cambridge Summit titled 'India in the Global Age', organised by the British university Monday.

According to the speaker, the Cambridge university has constantly excelled as a centre of higher learning with uncompromising standards of education, transforming knowledge to generate ideas for the benefit of the world.
