JEE (Main): Apply Online by  Dec 15

Oct 31, 2012 : The Central Board of Secondary Education has announced the schedule for the Joint Entrance Examination (Main)-JEE Main 2013. The Pen & Paper Based Examination will be held on April 7, 2013 while the Computer Based Examination of JEE (Main) will be held during 8th April and 25th April, 2013. Applications for JEE (Main) -2013 can be submitted online only at the JEE (Main) website, www.jeemain.nic.in .

Pattern of Examination: The Examination will have two papers. Paper-1of JEE (Main) for all Undergraduate courses (BE/B.Tech) other than B.Arch/B. Planning, at Institutions other than IITs coming under the purview of JEE (Main) will be conducted in offline (Pen and Paper Based Examination) mode and Online (Computer Based Examination) mode.
Paper-2 of JEE (Main) for admission to B.Arch/B.Planning, at Institutions other than IITs coming under the purview of JEE (Main) will be conducted only in Pen and Paper mode. A candidate may opt for either Pen or Paper Based or Computer Based examination modes for Paper-1 only. Candidates may take Paper-1 or Paper-2 or both as per the course(s) they are seeking admission to.

Paper 1, of three hours duration, will have Objective type questions from Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics with equal weightage to the three subjects. This paper will be Pen and Paper based OR Computer based. Pen and Paper based test will be held between 9.30 am and 12.30 pm on 7th April, 2013. The Computer based Test will be held in two shifts from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm and from 2 to 5 pm (if needed) between 8th and 25th April, 2013.

Paper 2 will have three parts with Mathematics in Part I and an Aptitude Test in Part II both of which will have objective type questions. Part III will be a Drawing Test with questions to test drawing aptitude. Paper 2 will be only in Pen and Paper mode and will be held from 2 pm to 5 pm on 7th April, 2013.

Language of Question paper:A candidate can opt for question papers either in English or in Hindi. Those candidates who have opted for centres in the state of Gujarat can also opt for question paper in Gujarati medium. The option of question paperlanguage should be exercised while filling up the Application Form and it cannot be changed at a later stage.

Fees:For Pen and Paper Based Examination, the Fee for those appearing for JEE (Main) Paper-1 or JEE (Main) Paper-2 only will be as follows depending on the category of the applicant. General/OBC: Boys-800, Girls-400; SC/ST/PWD: Rs 400 (Boys and Girls)
Both JEE (Main) Paper-1 and JEE (Main) Paper-2: General/OBC: Boys-1400, Girls-700; SC/ST/PWD: Rs 700 (Boys and Girls)

For Computer Based Examination (Paper-1 only), the Fee will be as follows: General/OBC: Boys-500, Girls-250; SC/ST/PWD: Rs 250 (Boys and Girls). For Computer Based Examination (Paper-1 only) and paper 2: General/OBC: Boys-1100, Girls-550; SC/ST/PWD: Rs550 (Boys and Girls).

For Examination Centre opted in Foreign Country (irrespective of the mode of Examination):JEE (Main) Paper-1 or JEE (Main) Paper-2 only: General/OBC: Boys-2000, Girls-1000; SC/ST/PWD: Rs 1000 (Boys and Girls)
Both JEE (Main) Paper-1 and JEE (Main) Paper-2: General/OBC: Boys-3000, Girls-15000; SC/ST/PWD: Rs 1500 (Boys and Girls).

The fee may be remitted either by Credit/Debit card or through Demand Draft, to be taken in favour of Secretary, CBSE, payable at Delhi. The computer generated application no. and name of applicant should be written on the reverse side of Demand Draft.

In case the examination fee is paid through Credit/Debit card, an additional processing charge of 1.20% of the examination fee plus the service tax as applicable will have to be paid.

Those who wish to appear in Paper-1 and Paper-2, should note that Paper-2 will be conducted only in Pen and Paper based examination mode. If they opt for Paper-1 in Computer based examination mode, it will be held between 08.04.2013 and 25.04.2013 while Paper-2 will be held on 7.4.2013 in the cities for computer based examination between 2 pm and 5 pm.

Application:Candidates are allowed to submit only one application form. Multiple applications of a candidate are liable to be rejected. Facility for Online submission of application will be available at the website www.jeemain.nic.in from 8th November to 15th December, 2012.

The list of facilitation centres arranged by the CBSE for filling online form is available as Appendix 8 (Page 44) of the Information Brochure that can be downloaded from www.jeemain.nic.in

The computer generated Confirmation Page with photograph pasted, address written and signed by the candidate and his/her parent along with the other documents/DD, must reach Executive Director, JEE (Main) Secretariat, Central Board of Secondary Education, PS-1-2, Institutional Area, I.P.Extn,Patparganj, Delhi-110 092 by Registered/Speed post on or before 26th December 2012.

After submission of an application no options can be changed at a later stage. All correspondence related to JEE (Main)-2013 should be addressed to the Executive Director, JEE (Main). The application no. printed on the computer generated Confirmation Page must be mentioned in all such correspondences. Candidates may check the status of their application on JEE (Main) - 2013 website by giving the application number and date of birth.

Date of Birth: Applicantshould have been born on or after October 1, 1988.  Upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years in case of SC/ST and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates. So SC/ST/PwD candidates born on or after October 01, 1983 are eligible.

Subject combinationsin qualifying examination: For admission to B.E/B.Tech and B. Arch/B. Planning Courses in NITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs.

B.E/B.Tech: Applicant should have studied Physics, Mathematics and one of Chemistry, Bio-technology, Computer Science, Biology and should have secured 50% marks in the Qualifying Examination, considering all the subjects.

B.Arch/B.Planning: Applicant should have studied Mathematics at the Qualifying Examination and should have obtained 50% marks in the Qualifying Examination, considering all the subjects. The JEE Brochure clarifies that this policy could also be adopted by other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) and participating Institutions. In case a State opts to admit students in the engineering Colleges affiliated to state Universities, the State may prepare separate rank list based on criteria decided by them.

Qualifying examinations: Applicant should have gone through one of the following qualifying examinations:
(i) The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized central/ state Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi; etc.
(ii) Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University
(iii) Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy
(iv) H.S.C. vocational examination
(v) Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects
(vi) A Diploma recognized by AICTE or a state board of technical education of at least 3 year duration
(vii) Any Public School/ Board/ University examination in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)
(viii) General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London / Cambridge / Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level. [Only for Admission to IITs]
(ix) High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva. [Only for Admission to IITs]
(x) In case the relevant QE is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination at an earlier level. [Only for Admission to IITs]

Year of Passing Qualifying Examination (QE): Applicant should havepassed their Class 12 Exam or any other qualifying examination in 2011 or 2012. Those who are appearing in their Class 12 Exam or any other qualifying examination in 2013 are also eligible to appear in JEE (Main) - 2013. Those who passed Class 12/Qualifying examination in 2010 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2014 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main)-2013. Those who appeared in class 12/other Qualifying Examinations in 2010, did not pass in 2010, but passed in 2011 are also not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2013. Applicant must have taken at least five subjects in Class 12/any other Qualifying examination in order to be eligible for writing JEE (Main). In the year 2013 however, the candidates who have taken four subjects are also permitted to write JEE 2013 as an exception.

No of chances:A candidate can attempt JEE (Main) only 3 times

JEE (Main) Score: The score of JEE (Main)-2013 of all candidates will be declared by 7th May 2013. This score shall comprise of the actual marks obtained in JEE (Main)-2013 along with the status of those who qualify for appearing in JEE (Advanced)-2013 provided other conditions of eligibility are met. The OMR answer sheets of all the candidates along with the responses captured will be put on JEE (Main) website for verification by the candidates.

Rank list of JEE (Main): On the basis of score in JEE (Main) and normalised score in Class 12 or other qualifying exam with 60% & 40% weightage respectively, separate rank lists will be prepared for admission to B.E./B.Tech and B.Arch/ B.Planning for institutions other than IITs. This will be declared on or before 7.7.2013.

Resolution of Tie: In case of a tie, where two or more candidates obtain equal marks (by giving 60% weightage to performance in JEE (Main) and 40% weightage to normalised marks in Class 12thor other qualifying examination), inter-se merit of such candidates shall be decided in the following order:

Rank list for admission to B.E/B.Tech(in institutions other than IITs)

(i) Candidate obtaining higher marks in Mathematics in JEE (Main)-2013 will be given higher rank
(ii) Candidate obtaining higher marks in Physics in the JEE (Main)-2013 will be given better rank
(iii) Candidate obtaining higher normalised marks of qualifying exam will be given better rank 
(iv) Candidate having higher absolute value of the ratio of positive marks and negative marks
(v) If the resolution is not possible after this criterion, candidates will be given the same rank

Rank list for admission to B.Arch/B.Planning(in institutions other than IITs)
(i) Candidate obtaining higher marks in Aptitude Test in Paper-2 in JEE (Main)-2013 will be given better rank
(ii) Candidate obtaining higher marks in Drawing Test in Paper-2 in JEE (Main) – 2013 will be given better rank
(iii) Candidates obtaining higher normalised marks of qualifying exam marks
(iv) Candidate having higher absolute value of the ratio of positive marks and negative marks
(v) If the resolution is not possible after this criterion, candidates will be given the same rank

Admission to NITs, IIITs and other institutions participating though Central Counselling Board will be based on All India Rank of JEE (Main) along with the criteria of subject combinations prescribed . The tentative list of participating institutions in CCB counselling is given as Appendix 6 (page 40) of the Information Brochure.

JEE (Main) Rank Card indicating All India Rank, State Rank and Category Rank with total marks and marks in each paper will be available on JEE (Main) website from 8.7.2013. All participating institutes that do not use the centralised counselling procedures will prepare their own ranking based on the performance in JEE(Main) and other criteria as decided by them.

If one expects the result of Class 12/Other qualifying examination to be declared only after 30thJune 2013by the examining body, he/she is advised not to attempt JEE (Main) - 2013. Those candidates in whose case, the result of Class 12/other qualifying examination is not available by 30thJune 2013 will not be considered for All India Ranking of JEE (Main) - 2013.

Rank Card: The rank cards will be despatched to the candidates from 12.7.2013 by ordinary post. Candidates may apply for duplicate rank card along with a payment of Rs. 50/- and postal charges of Rs. 30/- for outstation candidates, through Demand Draft in favour of Secretary, CBSE, payable at Delhi/New Delhi between 1.8.2013 and 31.8.2013. No request for issue of duplicate rank card will be entertained thereafter.
