Edu bills in Winter session: Tharoor

Thiruvananthauram, Nov 14 2012: Noting that improvement of education quality is a prime focus area, Union Minister Shashi Tharoor today said some of the critical pending bills will be taken up during the coming Winter session of Parliament.

"We have a number of reform initiatives. Some 20 legislations concerning education are pending before Parliament. We will prioritise and some important ones will be taken up during the Winter session of Parliament," the Minister of State for Human Resource Development told reporters at the Press Club here.

While pushing forward the agenda of improving quality of education at all levels, Tharoor said, it will not be done at the cost of inclusiveness to ensure that all sections benefit from these initiatives.

"Quality is important. But it should be of inclusive quality. That is our mantra (formula)," he said.  Emphasising the need to improve the standard of vocational education, he said interface with academic institutions and corporate sector will be strengthened.

The requirements of job market will be factored in while putting in place policies to improve the standard of technical education, he said. Similarly, vocational training institutions like ITIs require serious revival and for this private sector will be roped in, he said.
