Higher Education Scholarship: Apply by December 31
Thiruvananthapuram, December 4, 2012: The Kerala State Higher Education Council, has invited applications from eligible first year Degree students for the award of 1000 Higher Education Scholarships for the year, 2012-13. Applicant should be an Indian National. He/She should be a student of the first year under Graduate course in Science/Social Science/Humanities/Business Studies in a Government/Aided Institution or University Departments in Kerala for an aided course.
Applicant belonging to the ST category should have pass mark at the Plus Two/Equivalent Examination. For those belonging to the SC category, the minimum mark required to be eligible for the Scholarship is 45% for Science Subjects and 40% for other subjects. For all other categories, it is 50% for the Science subjects and 45% for other subjects. Those who will be selected for the Scholarship this year will be eligible to receive the Scholarship for the coming years also subject to the academic standards, as stipulated by the Higher Education Council, achieved by them.
For Under Graduate studies, the student will receive a Scholarship of Rs.12,000/-, Rs.18,000/- and Rs.24,000/- respectively for the first, second and third year of the course. Those continuing for their Post Graduate studies, will get Rs.40,000/- for the first year and Rs.60,000/- for the second year of the PG Course. Physically Challenged students having more than 40% disability will be getting an additional 25% of the amount of Scholarship. Of the total scholarships, 50 % will be under the open category. 10% scholarships are reserved for SC/ST, 10% for BPL category, 27% for OBC and 3% for Physically Challenged category.
Application can be submitted online at www.kshec.kerala.gov.in till 31st December, 2012, following the instructions there. After successful completion of submission of applications by providing the information asked, the applicant should take a printout of the application submitted. The same has to be completed by affixing the photograph of the applicant and submitted to the Head of the Institution where the candidate is undergoing the course. In due course, the provisional list of eligible candidates will be published at the website of the Higher Education Council. Applicants will have the facility to raise complaints on the list within a stipulated time. After looking into the complaints, the final list will be published by the Council within two weeks, at the website of the Council.
