IIST B.Tech through JEE (Main) Rank

December 15, 2012: The admissions to the Undergraduate Programmes (B.Tech) for the year 2013-14, at the Indian Institute of Space Science Technology, Valiamala P.O, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala-695547, will be based on the All India Rank List (including category rank list) to be prepared and published for the year 2013 by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) based on the Joint Entrance Examination 2013.
Indian Institute of Space Science Technology is an autonomous body under the Department of Space. It has been declared as a Deemed to be University. This rank list is prepared by giving 60% weightage to the score in the Joint Entrance Examination JEE (Main) – 2013, and 40% weightage to the normalized score in Class 12 or other qualifying examination. Details of JEE (Main) 2013 can be seen at http://www.jeemain.nic.in The additional eligibility criteria for admissions to the B Tech Programmes at IIST will be announced later, according to an IIST release.
IIST offers B.Tech programmes in Aerospace Engineering, Avionics and Physical Sciences.
B.Tech Aerospace engineering is a 4-year Under-graduate Degree Programme oriented towards the needs of Space Technology and has significant overlap with Mechanical Engineering, including Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Sciences, and Space Dynamics. Those with B.Tech Degree in Aerospace Engineering can further specialize in Flight Mechanics, Aerodynamics, Thermal and Propulsion, Structure and Design, Manufacturing Science etc.
B.Tech (Avionics) is a 4-year Under-graduate Degree programme comprising the study of Electronics and Communications Engineering programmes, in addition to study of Advanced Electronics in Digital Communication, Control Systems and Computer Systems used in Aerospace Systems. Students with B.Tech in Avionics can later specialize in areas like DSP, RF & Communication, Antenna, Power Electronics, Micro Electronics, Control Systems etc.
B.Tech (Physical Sciences) is a 4-year Under-graduate Degree programme oriented towards application of basic sciences in Space Science and Technology. The programme lays a strong foundation in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and gives exposure to important applications of Space Technology such as Remote Sensing and GIS, Astronomy and Astrophysics and Earth System Sciences. Those with B.Tech in Physical Sciences can later specialize in areas like Atmospheric and Ocean Sciences, Solid Earth Science, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Remote Sensing & GIS, and Chemical Systems.

There are a total of 156 seats for the 3 courses. There are 60 seats each for B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering and B.Tech in Avionics. There are 36 seats for B.Tech in Physical Sciences. Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Castes belonging to Non-Creamy Layer and Physically Disabled candidates have reservations as per rules of Government of India.
The full Assistanceship per Semester for tuition fees, hostel accommodation and boarding etc; shall be borne by the IIIST for every student subject to the performance standards set by the IIST. On successful completion of the UG Programme in IIST, students meeting the specified academic standards of IIST will be absorbed in DOS/ISRO as Scientists/ Engineers.
