Engg admissions to be over by August 15

Dr. S  Rajookrishnan

December 24,2012: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has informed all that the last date up to which, students can be admitted against vacancies arising due to any reason in Technical Institutions is 15th August of the year of admission.  No student should be admitted to any Institution in any category beyond this cut off date as per the Advt No. Legal/12(06)/2012 published by AICTE, the other day.

This is as per the schedule laid down by the Supreme Court in its final Judgment dated 13th December, 2012 in CA-9048 of 2012. Entrance Examinations like AIEEE/State CET/Management quota examinations etc are to be conducted in the month of May. (AIEEE is no more in existence. It has been replaced by JEE (Main) and so this clause seems to be applicable to JEE (Main) also).

The results of the Qualifying Examination (12th or similar) and the Entrance Examinations are to be declared by 5th of June. The first round of Counseling/admission for allotment of seats is to be completed by 30th June and the second round of Counseling/admission for allotment of seats is to be completed by 10th July. The last round of Counseling/admission for allotment of seats is to be completed by 20th July.

Any number of rounds of counseling could be conducted depending on the local requirements. But all these rounds are to be completed by July, 30 and this is the last date for admitting candidates in seats other than those allotted in the previous rounds.

Academic session is to commence on 1st August. The last date, up to which, students can be admitted against vacancies arising due to any reason is 15th August. No student should be admitted under any quota in any institution after the last date. Students and other stakeholders seeking admission in various Technical Institutions for 2013-14, have been informed to take note of the schedule of admissions and the cut off dates.

Guidelines also specify the dates for granting or rejecting of approvals by AICTE, Universities and State Governments. The last date for granting or refusing approval by AICTE is 10th of April. The last date for granting or refusing approval by the University/State Government will be 15th May. All Government authorities, Universities and Institutions seeking approvals for 2013-14 have been asked to adhere to the schedule.
