Dr. N. Balu new VC of NUALS

Kochi, March 16,2013: Prof. (Dr.) N. Balu, Professor and Head, Department of Legal Studies, Madras University is the new Vice-Chancellor of the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), Kochi. Dr. (Mrs.) Justice Manjula Chellur, Chief Justice, High Court of Kerala and Chancellor of NUALS appointed Dr. N. Balu as the Vice-Chancellor from a panel of three names recommended by the Search Committee constituted by the Chancellor for the appointment of Vice-Chancellor, as per Clause 27 of the NUALS Act, 2005.

An eminent academician, Prof. Balu, has more than 30 years of teaching experience including 21 years as Professor and Dean of Legal Affairs, University of Madras. He is the first Ph.D. Degree holder in Law in Tamil Nadu. He also served as member of various academic bodies in different Universities and was also a member of the UGC Law Panel.

He was also instrumental in establishing the MHRD Chair on Intellectual Property Rights at the Department of Law, Madras University. He had visited USA and UK as Visiting Faculty and has also served as consultant in the Ministry of External Affairs (Legal & Treaties Division), Government of India. He is expected to assume charge of office as Vice-Chancellor of NUALS by the first week of April, 2013.
