UG and PG admissions at NIFT

October 5, 2013: National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), an Institute of Design, Management & Technology, a statutory body under the NIFT act, 2006 having centres at Benguluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderbad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Kolkata, Mumbai,New Delhi, Patna, Raebareli and Shillong has invited applications for admission to the Bachelor Programmes in Design or B.Des (Accessory Design, Fashion Communication, Fashion Design, Knitwear Design, Leather Design and Textile Design), Bachelor Programme in Technology (Bachelor of Fashion Technology Apparel Production) and Masters Programmes (Design, Fashion Technology, Fashion management) for 2014.
For the Bachelor Programmes in Design (B.Des -Fashion Design / Leather Design / Accessory Design / Textile Design / Knitwear Design / Fashion Communication), applicant should have passed the +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education / State Board New Delhi, and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi or the General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB) or any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in Foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system or should have a pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum offive subjects or a pass in the 3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.
For Bachelor Programme – Technology (Bachelor of Fashion Technology (Apparel Production) (B.FTech), applicant should have passed the +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or the General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri- Lanka) at the advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / International Baccalaureate (IB) or any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or should have a pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or a pass in the 3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education (Engineering background).
For Bachelor Programmes, the maximum age limit is23 years as on 1st October, 2013. The upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for applicants of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribe/ Differently Abled Person (PHP) subject to educational qualifications.
Master Programme in Design (M.Des-Master of Design): Undergraduate Degree from any Institute / University recognized by law in India or Diploma in UG Design from NIFT/NID only, Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID.
Master Programme-Management (M.F.M - Master of Fashion Management): Undergraduate Degree from any Institute / University recognized by law in India or Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT/NID.
Master Programme-Technology (M.F.Tech - Master of Fashion Technology): B.F.Tech from NIFT or B.E / B.Tech from any Institute / University recognized by law in India. For Masters Programmes, there is no age limit.
Those appearing in the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply provided, they produce a proof of having acquired minimum prescribed qualifications at the time of counselling/admission. If the 12th Class/final year/final semester (as the case may be) result of qualifying degree/certificate examination is not declared by the concerned Board/University till the date of counselling/admission, his/her admission in that case will be strictly provisional subject to the conditions specified in the Admission Prospectus that can be downloaded from www.nift.ac.in.
Seats are reserved for SC / ST / Differently Abled Candidates (PHP) / Foreign Nationals / SAARC / NRI, in each programme. SC- 15%, ST- 7.5%, OBC (Non-Creamy) -27%, Differently Abled Person (PHP) 3% Horizontal reservation for Differently Abled Person (with 40% or more disability) cutting across all sections, SCs, STs, OBCs Non-Creamy and General category. Foreign Nationals/SAARC/NRI 15% (supernumerary), State Domiciles 20% (supernumerary)
Qualifying candidates need to meet the eligibility and admission requirements prescribed for each category.
Application Fees for General/OBC (Non-Creamy) Category is Rs.1200/- and that for SC/ ST/ PHP Category is Rs.600/-.
Application Fees has to be paid either through online payment gateway or through Bank Demand Draft issued in favour of ‘NIFT HO’, payable at New Delhi. Online payment can be made using credit cards / debit cards. The Bank and transaction charges on the application fee will be borne by the applicant. Those making payment through DD, should fill in the details of the DD in the online application form.

Last date of online registration with late fees of Rs.5000/-(in addition to the applicable application fees) through Credit/Debit Card only is 17th January, 2014.

Those making payment through Demand Draft are required to send the printout of the Application Form, duly completed in all respect, along with Demand Draft to Project Manager-CMS, All India Management Association, Management House, 14, Institutional Area, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110003, to reach the above address on or before 14thJanuary 2014.In case of late applicants applying with late fee and DD, the print out of application along with DD (towards fees), should reach the given address before 17th January, 2014.
Applicants may keep the copy of printout and Demand Draft for future reference.
The selection process to the Programme includes a Test to be conducted in two phases, in two modes, depending on the course applied for.
Phase I is a Paper Based Test (PBT1) and will be for all UG and PG Programmes (Bachelor of Design Programme, Bachelor of Fashion Technology and Master of Design, Master of Fashion Management and Master of Fashion Technology) and will be conducted on 9thFebruary, 2014 at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur (Kerala), Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Srinagar (J&K), Surat,Udaipur, Vadodara and Vishakhapatnam.
Phase II will have Paper Based Test (PBT 2) and Computer Based Test (CBT).The Paper Based Test (PBT2) will be conducted for B.Des / M.Des and the Computer Based Test (CBT) will be conducted for BFTech, MFM and MFTech on 23rdFebruary, 2014 at Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi / NCR, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna.
Applicants will have multiple options for taking the admission tests. For any single programme an applicant may appear for the test on9th February 2014 (Sunday) or 23rd February 2014 (Sunday) or 9th February 2014 (Sunday) & 23rd February 2014 (Sunday). Applicant has the option to apply for two programmes; taking test for the first programme on 9th February 2014 and for the Second Programme on 23rd February 2014.In case a candidate has appeared for the test twice for the same programme; the better of the two scores will be considered. Separate applications are to be submitted for each date and/or programme.

The tests may include Creative Ability Test (CAT) to judge the intuition skill, power of observation, innovation in development of a concept and design ability of the candidate or General Ability Test (GAT) which measures the Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability and English Comprehension, Analytical and Logical Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affairs and Case Study or both CAT and GAT depending on the Programme. B.Des candidates have to take GAT and CAT while B.F.Tech candidates have to take GAT only. The candidates for M.Des will take GAT and CAT. In case of M.F Tech and MFM, candidates have to take GAT.
The entrance examination is designed to test the knowledge, skill and aptitude of the candidates for the programme opted. The objective type tests are subject to negative marking at the rate of 0.25 for each wrong answer. Each right answer will be awarded 1 mark.
Admit Card of provisionally eligible candidates will be available for download from www.nift.ac.in or https://applyadmission.net/nift 2014 from 1 pm on 27th January 2014. Admit card will not be sent by Post. Applicants should regularly check NIFT website for updates.
On the basis of result of written test GAT and CAT, B.Des candidates will be called for second test called Situation Test. For B.F.Tech., GAT will be the final test for selection.
On the basis of result of GAT and CAT, in case of M.Des and GAT in case of M.F Tech and MFM, candidates will be called for Group Discussion/Personal Interview.
