IIT-B, Monash University open research academy

Mumbai, Nov 26:  The IIT-Bombay-Monash Research Academy -- a joint research academy of IIT-B and Australia's Monash University was inaugurated here today.

The joint research academy, located at the IIT-B campus, will conduct research on energy, water, biotechnology and Stem Cell, infrastructure, Advance Computational Engineering and Nano Technology.

The not-for-profit academy can also be employed to carry out contract research for industry and will give joint accredited PhD degrees from both IIT-B and Monash to students. It will be run by an independent Governing Board and a high-powered Advisory Council- chaired by Infosys chairman Narayana Murthy- comprising of captains of industry and research luminaries, a release said here.

The academy is expected to address future R&D challenges of industry sectors such as petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, automotive, infrastructure, biotechnology, life sciences, IT and financial markets.
